We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Head of Legal Business Partnering to join the passionate SPC team.
The Head of Legal Business Partnering is a senior, hands-on legal advisor responsible for embedding legal support across the commercial and operational functions of the business. You will play a critical role in ensuring the organisation meets its regulatory obligations while enabling agile decision-making and business growth.
This role requires a deep understanding of the food and beverage regulatory environment, a practical approach to risk management, and the ability to support fast-paced, cross-functional teams across our Commercial, Supply Chain, Finance and People & Culture teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Partnering & Operational Legal SupportAct as the embedded legal partner to commercial, operations, and supply chain teams, providing timely and actionable advice on a wide range of business initiatives.Support new product development and market launches with regulatory and legal oversight from ideation through to shelf.Advise on day-to-day operational issues, including product claims, marketing and communications, intellectual property rights and protection, customer complaints, distribution issues, retailer negotiations, and licensing queries.Food & Beverage Regulatory ComplianceEnsure ongoing compliance with food safety and labelling regulations (e.g. FSANZ, ACCC, local health authorities), including packaging claims, ingredient disclosures, shelf-life, and allergen information.Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory Affairs teams to proactivelyManage risk in manufacturing, product formulation, and recalls.Keep abreast of evolving regulatory requirements (e.g. sugar labelling, health star ratings, sustainability claims) and embed those into operational processes.Contract Management & Commercial ExecutionDraft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including supply agreements, co-manufacturing contracts, third-party logistics (3PL), sales terms with major retailers, promotional agreements, and marketing partnerships.Develop standardised templates and negotiation playbooks to enable commercial teams to self-serve where appropriate.Oversee contract lifecycle management and drive automation where possible.Brand, Marketing & Claims ManagementReview and advise on marketing content (packaging, digital, social media, in-store) to ensure compliance with advertising standards and consumer law.Support the brand and innovation teams on IP matters, licensing agreements, and enforcement of trademark rights.Assist in managing regulatory challenges or competitor complaints regarding product claims and advertising.People & Culture Legal SupportPartner with the People & Culture team to provide high-level support on workplace relations, employment contracts, policies, investigations, terminations, and restructuresSupport the management of employment-related disputes, claims, and regulatory enquiries (e.g. Fair Work Commission matters), engaging external employment counsel where appropriate.Advise on the legal aspects of enterprise agreements, contractor management, performance issues, and changes to employment law.Help maintain compliant, fair, and fit-for-purpose workplace practices and policies in line with current legal standards.Governance, Risk & Incident ManagementContribute to risk assessments and mitigation planning across the business.Support the business in managing regulatory complaints, incidents, product withdrawals / recalls, or consumer complaints where required.Develop and deliver tailored legal training across functions, particularly for sales, QA, marketing, and innovation teams.Legal Operations & Continuous ImprovementDrive legal efficiency by implementing fit-for-purpose tools, processes, andreporting.Act as a key contributor to business process improvement initiatives that intersect with legal risk (e.g. supplier onboarding, sustainability claims, promotional approvals).Lead the interface with external legal counsel on specialised or high-risk matters, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality support.People & SafetyChampion a proactive safety culture by supporting compliance with WHS regulations, incident management, and continuous improvement in safety practices.Support
