Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is a multi-speciality teaching hospital catering to community in Northern Tasmania.As the major clinical teaching and research centre, LGH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.

Northern Tasmania Pathology Service (NTPS) is a Public Pathology GX laboratory located in LGH and provides multi-disciplinary diagnostic services to community in Northern Tasmania. We offer advanced training in Pathology disciplines and we have a team of dedicated haematologists who supervise thetrainees for Laboratory Haematology.

At NTPS, we focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role :

  • Participate and train in the diagnostic Haematology service for inpatients and outpatients of the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) under the supervision of Clinical and Laboratory Haematologists.
  • Work collaboratively with medical and scientific staff and other health professionals in a role commensurate with experience.
  • Assist with the Haematology consultation services
  • Participate in Haematology outpatient services in a role commensurate with experience
  • Undertake haematology procedures eg : Bone marrow biopsies for the malignant and non-malignant patients with haematological disorders as requested by the haematologists.
  • Organise MDT and other meetings relevant to the registrar training.

You will need to

  • Demonstrate a commitment to training in Laboratory Haematology
  • Previous work experience relevant to the role.
  • With direction and supervision provided by specialist medical staff, the Registrar - Laboratory Haematology is responsible for :

  • Adherence to Hospital and professional protocols, policies, clinical pathways and standards.
  • Demonstrating sound judgement and competence in accordance with skills and knowledge when undertaking tasks.
  • Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation and procedures.
  • Essential Requirements : General or limited registration with AHPRA - Medical Board of Australia.

    Desirable requirements : Previous experience in Laboratory Haematology

    Details of appointment :

    Fixed term full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 2 February 2026 until31 January 2027.

    Registrars only : You will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight, pro rata.

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

    Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $134,930 - $189,005 per annum, pro rata+ 11.5% superannuation+ access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

    General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

  • Prior experience in clinical and / or laboratory haematology.
