Since 1991, Dulwich-Newtown Basketball Club (DNBC) has proudly served the basketball needs of the Inner West community. With over 40 active teams, we are dedicated to providing high-quality basketball training for players of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Our programs prioritize fun-based learning and competitive skill development, creating an inclusive and engaging environment for children aged 7-17.
- Position Overview
We are currently seeking 2 passionate and skilled coaches to join our team, coaching boys' and girls' beginner basketball teams across the U10s, U12s, and U14s age groups. This is an exciting opportunity to mentor young players and foster a love for basketball in a supportive and dynamic club environment.
As a Basketball Development Coach, you will play a key role in developing young players by teaching basketball fundamentals, fostering teamwork, and creating an enjoyable experience for all participants.
Each coach will independently manage their own team, as well as oversee training sessions and game-day coaching. The role is ideal for individuals passionate about working with children and promoting positive sporting experiences.
- Responsibilities
- Conduct beginner-level training sessions for children aged 7-13 years old, focusing on skill development and teamwork.
- Coach teams on game days (Saturdays), implementing various basketball strategies.
- Track and document player progress, providing regular feedback to players and parents.
- Ensure a safe, positive and inclusive environment for all participants during training and games.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director and Basketball Programs Coordinator to deliver a quality coaching experience to players.
- Engage with parents and guardians to provide updates on team activities and individual progress.
- Required Schedule
- Coach 1
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6 : 45 am - 8 : 15 am, plus Saturday (game times vary between 8 am - 3 pm).
- Coach 2
- Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 6 : 45 am - 8 : 15 am, plus Saturday (game times vary between 8 am - 3 pm).
- Requirements
- Demonstrated experience coaching or teaching children in any capacity (e.g., primary school teaching, PE teaching, or sports coaching).
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to engage and motivate beginner players.
- Familiarity with basketball fundamentals and an understanding of coaching beginners.
- Ability to motivate and inspire athletes / students.
- A valid Working with Children's Check.
- Availability for the specified schedule and ability to commute.
- Preferred Qualifications
- BNSW Club Coaching Accreditation (formerly Level 1) - or equivalent.
- Previous experience in basketball coaching and / or working with beginner players.
