Georges River Council has a unique opportunity for a Coordinator Cultural Services to join and lead our team, at the Museum and Gallery in Hurstville.

About The Role

The Coordinator Cultural Services is responsible for leading the Cultural Services team to ensure Council's Cultural Strategy and its associated actions are delivered to the community. The successful candidate will contribute to Council's vision by providing key leadership and expert advice in relation to the Museum & Gallery's collection, exhibitions and programs.

  • Lead, manage and develop a cohesive team and support effective communication and cooperation across the Cultural Engagement and Library Services business unit
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate exhibitions at the Hurstville Museum and Gallery as well as other Council facilities and online, including the Georges River Art Prize and Community Art Space program
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate a diverse range of programs and cultural projects to provide opportunities for the community to engage with the Hurstville Museum and Gallery’s collection and services, including the Artist in Residence program and Public Art
  • Provide ongoing and sustainable delivery of services through supervision of the staff roster, collection management, and leadership of projects related to the presentation, layout, design and maintenance of the Hurstville Museum and Gallery and Council’s other creative spaces
  • Provide detailed updates, research, business cases, grant submissions, award applications, presentations and reports to support Council decision making as well as the implementation and development of projects, policies and strategies for the Cultural Engagement and Library Services business unit

  • What We Offer

  • Temporary, Full time - 70 hours per fortnight (until January 2026, parental leave cover)
  • Full time salary from $123,891.39 - $143,546.89 per annum (pro rata) plus 11.5% superannuation (dependant on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate)

    Georges River Council welcomes applicants through Council-to-Council secondment arrangements. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to broaden their leadership experience, develop new skills, and contribute to a different local government environment, while retaining the security of your substantive position.

    To be eligible for secondment, the following conditions must be met :

  • You have obtained approval and support from your current Council for the secondment.
  • You are approved to take unpaid leave for the duration of the temporary contract.
  • You will be employed by Georges River Council on a maximum term contract and agree to the terms and conditions of that employment.
  • At the conclusion of the contract, you will return to your substantive role with your current Council.
  • Any accrued sick leave or long service leave at the conclusion of the contract may be transferred back to your Council in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2023.

    The successful candidate will have

  • Tertiary qualifications in Museum Studies or equivalent
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence (Class C)
  • Demonstrated experience supervising the delivery of customer focused services in a museum, gallery or equivalent cultural organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, team building and staff development, including mentoring, performance management and change management
  • Demonstrated experience leading the implementation and management of visual art and social history exhibitions
  • Demonstrated experience leading the delivery of public programs and events for diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated experience leading the implementation of public art projects, including external stakeholder management
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and evaluating services that reflect and enhance the cultural, informational, recreational and educational needs of the community
  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases, grant submissions, award applications and presentations to support organisational decision making
  • Demonstrated high level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including report writing, effective negotiation, consultation and consensus building
  • Demonstrated financial management skills and experience managing an operational budget
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and competing priorities, including an ability to work to deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite as well as content management systems and technology in a museum or gallery or equivalent setting
