Casterton Memorial Hospital is a small rural health service which provides acute care, primary care, aged care and allied health services to the community of Casterton and surrounds in Western Victoria.

Program Structure This one-year programme is for newly Graduate Registered Nurses (RN's), comprising of 8 shifts per fortnight for a total of four graduates. Intake is usually mid to late January. 2 weeks leave will be provided mid-course between acute / aged care rotations.

Objectives Provide an opportunity for the Graduate Nurse to consolidate and integrate nursing knowledge into practice Facilitate reflective practice developing a clinical judgement skill set Support the Graduate Nurse to progressively fulfil the contemporary role of a Registered Nurse, while maintaining the optimal work / life balance Promote the personal and professional development of the Graduate Nurse Clinical Component At the commencement, the Clinical Orientation Programme is delivered in collaboration with Wimmera Base Hospital at Horsham, including 8 days on-site.

The clinical component of the Graduate Registered Nurse Programme 2026 includes rotations that are approx. five months in length. Rotations include :

Acute Care - This placement provides a sound clinical foundation on which to develop clinical skills and knowledge Glenelg House (Aged Care facility) - This rotation enables the graduate to develop clinical leadership, clinical judgement, physical assessment, medication management and communication skills within a person-centred care model Surgical / Emergency - During the year, a three-week clinical placement at Wimmera Base Hospital (Horsham) may include acute / emergency / medical dependent on availability Clinical Support Program Co-ordinators / CMH Education Officer - Facilitate the delivery and co-ordination of the programme, facilitate clinical support for Graduate Nurses and assists the graduate to acquire skills and knowledge in a supported environment Preceptors - The Graduate Nurse is allocated a preceptor for the duration of the course Unit Managers - Monitor the progress of the Graduate nurse during the clinical placement and offers support to the graduate when required Group Debriefing Sessions - Held to provide a forum for the graduate nurses to discuss any issues relating to any aspect of the programme Application Process All applicants must apply using the Graduate Nurse Programme computer matching system We also require an application prior to the date of closure for computer match Applications should include a letter of introduction and brief CV academic transcripts up to year 3 semester 1 a list of all clinical placements and clinical assessments from year 2 and 3 current National Police Check (certified copy) current Victorian Working with Children Check (certified copy) Applications close 2 nd July, 2025.
