Job description

Strategic Financial Leadership in a Large Organisation Mission-Driven Strategic Impact Senior Managerial Role This is a rare opportunity for an experienced finance professional to drive strategic impact in a mission-driven organisation.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide is a mission-driven organisation with a diverse network of 56 parishes, 87 diocesan schools, welfare agencies, and the Catholic Development Fund.

With an annual budget of approximately $850 million and a workforce of 12,000, the Archdiocese plays a central role in shaping the spiritual, educational, and community life of South Australia—committed to financial stewardship, service excellence, and aligning practices with the values and vision of the Church.

Reporting to the Diocesan Financial Administrator (Chief Operating Officer), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide strategic financial leadership across the Archdiocese.

This role is responsible for overseeing governance, risk management, insurance, budgeting, financial reporting, internal audit, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The CFO will work closely with senior leaders to ensure financial compliance, sustainability, and best practice, while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence.

This role also involves supporting key governance bodies, including the Diocesan Finance Council and its subcommittees, and playing a pivotal role in long-term strategic planning and risk management.

The successful candidate will be a values-driven, CPA / CA qualified finance professional with significant senior leadership experience in large, complex, and regulated environments.

Proven expertise in financial governance, strategic planning, risk management, and insurance is essential, as is the ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, combined with a commitment to service and ethical leadership, are vital to this role.

Experience in the not-for-profit, education, religious, or community sectors will be highly regarded.

Applications should be forwarded to the attention of Emily Palmer in Word format.

Confidential enquiries are welcome to Nikita Bheem or Emily Palmer on 08 8214 8020.
