  • The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Legal Practice Manager to manage critical relationships and business systems for the Corporate Law Branch. You will support operational decision-making of the Legal Division Executive. This role provides an opportunity to work in an internationally-facing government department and drive a significant operational redesign and assurance process.

The Corporate Law Branch delivers legal enabling services that advance the department's global operations and strategic objectives.

We advise on Australia's diplomatic law obligations and our teams directly support DFAT's overseas consular operations. We provide employment, security and WHS legal advice in relation to the department's APS employees as well as those engaged under foreign domestic law at our overseas posts.

We are closely engaged in the design and delivery of complex and innovative aid projects and advise on high value commercial law and procurement issues. The team is responsible for privacy governance, legislative processes, and compliance assurance. We lead on litigation and other external legal processes.

You will be an experienced Legal Practice Manager who is able to lead a team and drive outcomes in a dynamic operating environment. As Legal Practice Manager you are a natural operational problem solver, playing a key role in developing and maintaining relationships and influencing work areas to meet operational requirements.

You will have experience in :

  • budget management in a legal services context - familiarity with SAP (or similar) is an advantage
  • government procurement of legal services - familiarity with the Legal Services Directions 2017 and the Whole of Australian Government Legal Services Panel is an advantage
  • developing, implementing, and monitoring internal policies and their governance arrangements
  • supporting delivery of critical enabling services such as human resources management, IT and administration systems
