About the Role
Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Cost Controller to join our team in Lytton, QLD. Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the commercial and financial performance of the project. Your focus will be on ensuring cost accuracy, budget control, and effective financial reporting across the entire client account in a complex project environment.
This position is a permanent full-time opportunity – 38-hour work week.
Role Accountabilities include :
- Ensure relevant contracts and jobs are set up fully in our internal financial systems, enabling timely invoicing, cost monitoring and report generation
- Ensure timesheet (human resources and assets) and invoice accuracy
- Monitoring cost ledgers and identifying and reconciling actual invoiced cost data against budgeted cost data
- Drive the client requirements aligned to contract deliverables
- Realise opportunities to maximise outcomes in accordance with conditions of the contract
- Revenue and cost forecasting and risk analysis to anticipate budgetary variations
- Continued tracking of project costs aligned to client purchase orders
- Drive project variation and delay expectations to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements
- Coordinate End of Month requirements for projects to comply with internal and external financial reconciliation and invoicing obligations
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the cost control function of the project
- Track submitted invoices to ensure payment is received within payment terms in the contract
- Conduct audits on payroll cots and other business expenses to minimise leakage on the project
- In conjunction with client stakeholders, resolve any invoice queries to ensure accurate and timely invoice approvals
- Prepare accurate and timely project cost reports including weekly, monthly and quarterly project reporting expectations
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including project managers, project engineers, schedulers, client focal and administrators. Mentor site personnel and administrators on client requirements to ensure compliance
- Participate in internal gate review process for proposals and estimates prior to submitting to the client
- Ensure accurate equipment utilisation for the project and support the Capex process for new equipment
- Data input to internal and external systems as required including timesheet entry for personnel, equipment and 3rd party
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following :
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working within complex project cost control
- Experience working in the Construction / Mining / Oil & Gas industry would be advantageous but not essential
- Experience liaising with internal and external customers
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Confidence to offer system improvements / suggestions
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
- Experience of office / administration processes with the ability to learn and improve procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively and influence others
- High level of analytical and computing skills
