General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Training Royal Hobart Hospital - 2026
We are seeking applicants who are passionate about pursuing General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Training for 2026.
The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the largest hospital in Tasmania with approximately 500 beds. It is the state-wide referral centre for numerous tertiary services for Tasmania and an accredited Level 3 teaching hospital, as well as the community hospital for the greater Hobart region. The hospital offers wide variety of medical and surgical subspecialties including cardiothoracic and neurosurgery and has the full range of diagnostic services available. There is provision of sub-specialty advice and support, and ICU support, with a 23 bed ICU which is currently being expanded to 30 beds.
The Royal Hobart Hospital offers an excellent training program with exposure to Core General Medicine and Core General Medicine related rotations (e.g.RAMU, General medicine ED team) and major medical sub-specialties in a well-established program that includes 6-month terms in Respiratory Medicine, Nephrology, Stroke / Neurology, Cardiology and Gastroenterology. All these units have accredited advanced training registrars in their discipline as well.
The Advanced Training program at the Royal Hobart Hospital has been developed for trainees to have access to subspecialties that meet all core training requirements including 12 months of core training in General Medicine and 12 months core subspecialty terms. We are accredited for 24 months core and 12 months of non-core training at our site. Trainees entering the program at year 1 or year 2 will be given the option of a 2-year contract.
Several positions are available commencing beginning of February 2026 for trainees entering Advanced Training or continuing training from other hospitals.
We are able to offer Full-Time positions in addition to one part-time (0.5FTE) position.

Fixed term, full timeday work,76 hours per fortnight plus 10 hours protected training time (pro-rata), commencing 2 February 2026 until 1 February 2027
Note - 24-month appointment may be negotiable for suitable applicants.
Applicants should note that, for a period of a twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
The Advanced Trainee is responsible for the day-to-day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital and participates in outpatient clinics.
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted :
1. Conviction checks in the following areas :
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
