The opportunity

WSP is at the forefront of helping our clients protect and restore our natural resources and ecosystems, in compliance with legislation, regulations, and policies.

We are looking for a passionate Ecologist or Botanist to join us in our Perth office .

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including botanists, zoologists, environmental planners, scientists, and engagement specialists, working on infrastructure, renewable energy, and local government projects.

Your role will primarily involve undertaking fieldwork and preparing environmental reports to assist clients with environmental approvals, ecological impact assessments, threatened species surveys, vegetation clearance assessments, ecological management plans, offset management plans, and ecological monitoring.

Day to day, you will :

  • Conduct ecological surveys and vegetation assessments using BAM, STAM, and RAM
  • Contribute to project planning, including meeting deadlines and budgets
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues and clients; participate in developing project scopes and proposals
  • Assess data and prepare ecological assessment reports and native vegetation data reports
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including membership of scientific organizations, involvement with environmental groups, and attending workshops and conferences

About you

You have studied an Environmental or Natural Science discipline such as ecology, botany, biology, or a similar field.

You likely have previous consulting or advisory experience in ecological assessments across various bioregions in Western Australia.

You will also bring the following experience and attributes :

  • Field experience such as flora surveys, ecological monitoring, and threatened ecological community identification
  • General fauna survey experience
  • Knowledge of legislation and policies related to vegetation and biodiversity, such as the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, the Native Vegetation Act 1991, the National Parks & Wildlife Act 1972, and the Environment Protection Act 1993
  • Experience in survey design, data collection, mapping, and using survey guidelines for flora
  • Experience with GIS, field mapping, and managing spatial datasets
  • A passion for ecology, conservation, biodiversity, and natural resource management
  • Interest and willingness to participate in national projects (desirable)
