Job description

As the PO2 Conservation Officer, you will participate in a multi-disciplinary team to implement, advise on, and continuously improve strategies and procedures relating to the South-East Queensland Koala Monitoring Program. You will be responsible for field work planning, data collection and management, and supporting technical staff. Maintaining the safety and well-being of all staff will be a high priority. You will also assist in the preparation and coordination of briefing notes, program plans, submissions, reports and correspondence.

A priority for this role will be to engage and build collaborative relationships with private landholders, local government agencies, other departmental units, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups, natural resource management groups, and nongovernment organisations. A critical element of our program is engaging with stakeholders to get them excited about and involved in our koala monitoring program.To be successful in this position you must have : - Experience in project management related to ecological field work planning. The work we do is challenging and critical to the conservation of our threatened species. We are looking for someone that understands the principles of conservation planning and threatened species management to ensure our projects are appropriately designed, well managed and outcome driven. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate strong project management skills, process skills to track and monitor work, and the ability to plan and deliver on outcomes. Ability to work as part of a diverse team, build relationships with diverse stakeholders, as well as work autonomously. We are looking for someone who has the interpersonal skills to work in a diverse team with a wide range of skillsets and learning styles. Forward planning and communication skills are important to work collaboratively across the team. Building relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders is vital to the success of our program. We are looking for someone with the confidence and skills to initiate conversations, negotiate access to properties, and maintain relationships. You will need to manage your priorities and your outputs, take responsibility for your work, meet deadlines and milestones, and inspire team members to deliver outcomes. Demonstrate analytical, research and problem-solving skills. The Koala Research and Monitoring program is adaptively managed, and it takes a collaborative effort from all team members to identify and solve problems.
