As the Regional Injury Management Advisor, you will be responsible for developing and promoting injury management strategies that focus on early injury recovery and durable return to work. You will deliver actions that are holistically carried out in line with Group strategy and values. Striving to advance Group strategy through enabling a unified culture of safety, people, customer focus and operational excellence.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with senior leaders to deliver year-on-year improvement in return to work outcomes.
  • Monitor and contribute to all rehabilitation, injury management and return to work activities
  • Comply with all Workers Compensation and Injury Management company policies, standards, procedures and self-insurance licence conditions
  • Engage with the business to implement the Injury Management Strategic Plan
  • Develop, implement and monitor case management strategies to ensure early and sustainable return to work outcomes
  • Arrange and attend case conferences with injured workers and treating doctors to upgrade duties, address barriers to return to work and recovery and formulate Injury Management Plans
  • Conduct workplace rehabilitation assessments, including modifications and job redesign
  • Provide injury management advice to Insurer / Agent Case Managers and frontline operational leaders to assist with complex and difficult claims
  • Utilise and consult with key internal staff to make informed decisions about return to work planning, approval of treatment and surgery and assistance with aids / appliances / travel to and from work
  • Deliver training packages that promote proactive workplace rehabilitation and early intervention
  • Develop Group Job Dictionary with functional task analyses of roles.
  • Negotiate with key stakeholders, including injured workers, nominated medical practitioner service providers to achieve agreed goals
  • Maintain well documented files that are accurate, objective and concise
  • Monitor service level agreements and arrangements with external providers including, rehabilitation, medical centres and after hours treatment centres
  • Where claims are disputed ensure case strategies have input from site management
  • Ensure that all complaints are dealt with sensitively and appropriately
  • Attend claims review meetings with the Business Units, Self-insurance and Insurers / Agents.
  • identify cost drivers for medical and like expenses and establish targeted programs to control cost

  • Allied Health qualifications or similar.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in injury management or return to work positions
  • Knowledge of key rehabilitation and return to work aspects of the relevant Workers Compensation legislation
  • Proven experience in coaching and training on return to work and rehabilitation programs
  • Proven experience in managing complex and serious injury claims
  • Proven experience in risk management and injury prevention strategies
  • Complete understanding of physical and psychological impacts post injury and current treatment options
  • Knowledge of employer and community-based programs for disability support
  • Excellent negotiation, conflict management and people skills
  • Results driven and motivated by achieving successful outcomes for all stakeholders
  • Must have a continuous improvement outlook
