The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a dedicated, highly talented professional to fill the role of the National Manager, National Security and Space Operations. The National Security and Space Program sits within the Bureau's Business Solutions Group and is the primary provider of environmental intelligence to the national security agencies and space sector.
Services to the Department of Defence and the ADF include the Meteorological Intelligence Support Team (MIST), located at Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC), and the Bureau's Defence Weather Service Office's (DWSOs), located in regional and remote areas. Defence Weather Services provides forecasts, real-time observations, climatological and oceanographic data and services, meteorological training, professional advice to assist decision-making and planning, along with direct support to exercises and operations. The Program is also involved in initiating and delivering collaborative capability enhancement projects supporting the national interest. Hence, a thorough understanding of the meteorological products and services that will assist Defence and the ADF to make sound decisions using meteorological, hydrological, climatological, oceanographic and space weather intelligence.
The role requires a strategic professional with a strong technical background who engages with risk and exercises a significant degree of independence. Exceptional communication skills are required to meet the demands of coordinating the dispersed operations teams. The ability to lead and manage multiple competing projects, operational budgets, human resourcing and the professional development requirements of the team is essential.
