  • About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions :
  • The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).

    About your opportunity :

    This is a temporary flexible-full time position for a period of 6 months with possibility of extension.

    As a Practice manager, the incumbent will undertake a combination of the following :

    • Meet commitments including timeframes for indictment presentation.
    • Monitor and report upon performance and outputs.
    • Resolve Chambers issues as they arise.
    • Allocate files and circuit responsibilities.
    • Establish, maintain and improve systems and processes.
    • Motivate, mentor and provide leadership to staff and contribute to the development and delivery of targeted training for legal and support staff.
    • Develop and maintain effective networks, and consult and negotiate, with internal and external stakeholders and clients.
    • Ensure complainants and relatives in prosecutions for sexual and other violent offences receive timely information.
    • Assume responsibility for a case load of complex cases and / or attend Court events.
    • Participate and assist with the delivery of the ODPP's training obligations to external organisations.
    • Criminal litigation experience and the ability to work effectively as an advocate in the Magistrates and / or higher courts, manage and motivate legal and support staff including managing performance and identifying professional development opportunities.
    • The ability to lead or contribute to organisational initiatives and reviews aimed at improving outcomes, and consult, negotiate and communicate to build productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders.
    • The ability to report on performance data and manage the operations of the work unit and contribute to state-wide initiatives and reviews.
    • Commitment to professional and ethical standards.
    • Mandatory qualifications, conditions and requirements :

      You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission).
