Our client, a major South Australian Government department, is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data platforms that incorporate scalable architecture, AI-driven analytics, and evolving Microsoft technologies.

About the Role This is a newly created leadership role with strategic influence. You'll shape data engineering capability and cloud adoption at an enterprise level - delivering solutions that drive smarter, data-informed public services.

Lead delivery of end-to-end data platforms across Azure, Databricks, and PowerBI Define and embed architectural best practice, engineering standards, and AI integration Mentor a team of data engineers producing scalable, reusable data assets Guide adoption of Microsoft Fabric while ensuring continuity with Databricks Embed DevOps, CI / CD pipelines, and lakehouse architecture into delivery models Champion data governance and metadata frameworks via Purview Collaborate across business and IT to deliver actionable, secure data solutions Influence government-wide digital transformation through data innovation Strong leadership in cloud-native engineering and team development Advanced expertise in Azure Data Services, Databricks, PowerBI, and Synapse Skilled in SQL, Python, and data orchestration tools Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and transitional planning Government experience is beneficial Ready for a New Challenge?
