Job description

Shape the Future of Child-Centred Community Services

API Leisure and Lifestyle is entering a transformative new phase, building on its 100-year legacy of social connection to create a new generation of thriving, inclusive, and child-centred neighbourhood hubs.

We are seeking a purpose-driven Non-Executive Director with deep expertise in legislation, regulatory reform or policy to help guide this evolution.

About API

Founded in 1918 to support the social needs of Post-Master General’s staff, API Queensland Ltd has grown into one of Australia’s largest social clubs. Today, API offers holiday accommodation, exclusive member benefits and access to community-focused services.

Looking ahead, API is focused on expanding its charitable purpose. Through the Canopy Early Education brand, the organisation will deliver modern neighbourhood hubs that bring together young families, seniors and local service providers to create stronger, more connected communities.

This is an opportunity to

  • Provide governance and policy oversight as API evolves its structure and purpose
  • Contribute to the development of inclusive, place-based early years and community services
  • Support the Board’s engagement with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with legislative frameworks
  • Influence the strategic direction of a philanthropic organisation with a vision to become one of Queensland’s leading community-giving entities by 2040

We are seeking a Non-Executive Director who brings

  • Strong working knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks across sectors such as early childhood education, health, aged care or community services
  • Experience in governance, compliance or public policy at a strategic level
  • A values-driven approach and commitment to improving outcomes for children and families
  • Board experience or readiness to step into a governance role
  • API’s Board is collaborative, strategic and focused on the future. We welcome expressions of interest from both experienced and emerging directors who are passionate about legislative impact and social change.

For a confidential discussion, contact Ashleigh McMillan on (07) 3305 5800
