Rio Tinto are expanding operations in the Pilbara to epic proportions while introducing next generation technologies to deliver greater efficiency, lower production costs and improved health, safety, and environmental performance.

About the Role :

We are seeking an experienced Project Planner to join our clients Rail Network Renewals Engineering Team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of Rio Tintos Rail Division capital renewals program. The annual program encompasses turnout renewals, level crossing upgrades, plain line renewals, high-output ballast cleaning, sleeper and rail replacements. It also includes major civil works such as earthworks, culvert renewals & extensions, road and bridge upgrades, and material logistics.

Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, you will be responsible for planning projects from the development and design phase through to detailed scheduling, execution, and closeout. Youll collaborate closely with project teams and internal stakeholders to oversee major track renewal and civil works. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring projects are delivered in line with RTIO engineering standards, while upholding strong health, safety, quality, and environmental practices.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Plan and manage project timelines from design to execution and closeout
  • Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders on rail and civil works planning
  • Develop and maintain baseline schedules using Primavera P6 and TILOS
  • Provide schedule insights and forecasts to support project delivery
  • Monitor construction progress and recommend corrective actions as needed
  • Ensure compliance with RTIO procedures, safety, and engineering standards
  • Support reporting and documentation for project status and performance
  • Skills and Experience :

  • Experience in the rail industry
  • Shutdown and infrastructure planning (Desirable)
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and Trimble TILOS
  • Strong understanding of construction and maintenance planning principles
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • WA C Class Drivers Licence
