- Key roles and responsibilities
- of a disability support worker working in the
- intellectual disability
- and mental health sector may include :
- Provide direct support and
assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities in their daily
activities and routines.
Assist with personal care taskssuch as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, while ensuring dignity
and respect.
Support individuals indeveloping and maintaining independent living skills, including cooking,
cleaning, and managing household tasks.
Adapt communication methods tomeet the individual's needs, using clear and simple language, visual aids,
or other communication tools as required.
Assist with accessing communityactivities, social events, and recreational opportunities, fostering
social inclusion and community participation.
Facilitate skill-buildingactivities and educational opportunities to enhance the individual's
independence and personal development.
Administer medication and assistwith medical tasks under the direction of healthcare professionals,
ensuring adherence to protocols and safety standards.
Collaborate with families,carers, and other support professionals to develop and implement
individualized support plans that meet the individual's goals and
preferences.
Advocate for the rights andneeds of individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting inclusion,
equality, and access to opportunities.
Maintain accurate records anddocumentation of support activities, progress, and any incidents or
concerns, ensuring confidentiality and privacy.
Participate in ongoing trainingand professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in
intellectual disability support and best practices.
Supporting individuals in managing their mental health symptoms, promoting self-care practices, and accessing appropriate mental health services and resources.Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to coordinate holistic care and support plans.Job TypesFull-time, Part-time, CasualSalaryFrom $33.00 per hourExpected hours : 20 - 50 per week
