To be an effective force the Navy needs all its personnel fit and healthy, including their dental health. Navy Dentists (known in the Navy as Dental Officers) provide the full range of dental treatments to all Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel at no cost to the patient. Navy will provide the standard of health care required in order to ensure the operational readiness of all ADF personnel.
The type of dental practitioner the Navy is looking for, is someone who works well in a team environment, is not averse to moving around the country sometimes at short notice and occasionally abroad. A Navy dentist will also possess high professional standards and a strong work ethic.
Navy dental facilities vary from large multi-dental surgery clinics offering the full range of general and specialist dental services, to single dental surgery clinics at a base or on a ship. Our facilities are modern and fully equipped and supported by well-trained dental auxiliaries and clerical staff. Career progression for Dentists is based on clinical and management competency levels.
Additional Duties
In addition to their normal duties, all Navy Officers will be designated as Divisional Officers throughout their career. This involves the leadership, management, administration and career advice to junior officers and sailors within their Division which may involve up to fifty personnel.
If you happen to be posted to a Navy ship you may be also be engaged in general officer responsibilities assigned to you as a member of the ship’s company. These ancillary duties could include Public Relations Officer or Security Officer for the ship.
