Iberdrola Australia is leading Australia’s transition to a clean energy future. With over 170 years history, the Iberdrola Group today is a global energy leader. Their expertise includes renewable energy, networks, smart grids, large-scale energy storage, energy innovation and digitisation, and advanced customer products.

Their generation portfolio is more than 95% renewable and includes 9 wind farms, 3 solar farms, 2 grid scale batteries and 2 fast-start peakers and continuing to evolve, investing in new capabilities in networks, green hydrogen and offshore wind. Iberdrola’s financial strength, supply chain access and history of award-winning expertise, will make Iberdrola a certain partner to accelerate Australia’s Net Zero emissions future.

This is an opportunity to shape your career with one of the genuine global energy leaders within Australia.

About the Role

The Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the engineering design for the development and execution of Iberdrola’s renewable energy portfolio, focusing mainly on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) but also on onshore wind and photovoltaic systems. This role involves technical oversight of all renewable projects, with a strong focus on BESS projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring optimal performance, compliance with standards, and seamless integration with other renewable energy systems such as photovoltaic (PV) and wind. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in BESS, a deep understanding of power systems, and a track record of successful project delivery in the renewable energy sector. It is expected that there will be some travel to project sites in different States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop concept designs and specifications for BESS and other renewable projects, including electrical SLDs, cable schedules, layouts, and integration plans.
  • Conduct simulations, fault studies, load flow analyses, and performance assessments to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate BESS with PV systems, wind turbines, and grid infrastructure.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and test plans.
  • Develop specifications and contractual documents, including procurement and construction contracts and connection agreements.
  • Conduct technical reviews and approvals of vendor and contractor documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems with other engineering disciplines.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Preparation, analysis, and completion of fault investigations on plant and component failures, including review and / or management of those conducted by external service providers.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including design consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies
  • Communicate technical findings, design changes, and project updates effectively to stakeholders.

This is a unique opportunity to join a globally renowned brand in the energy sector. With a substantial pipeline of projects on the horizon, this position allows you to contribute some of Australia’s premier renewable energy initiatives.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in electrical generation assets or a related business. Previous renewables experience will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in reviewing and approving technical documentation
  • Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, power systems, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Proficient in using engineering software and tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple technical tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and standards related to BESS.
  • The Benefits

The opportunity to work within a global business operating across various locations in Australia, having the chance to contribute to some of Australia’s leading renewables projects. Join a team that fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional development ensuring you grow and succeed whilst contributing the Australia’s clean energy future.
