About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior SQL DBA to join a high-performing infrastructure team on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with deep on-premises SQL Server expertise, strong troubleshooting capability, and a passion for maintaining high availability, performance, and security of critical database environments.
You’ll play a key role in supporting and optimising enterprise-scale SQL Server environments, ensuring stability across mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and administer SQL Server databases in on-prem environments
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve performance and availability issues
Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning/testing
Implement and maintain high availability solutions(Always On, clustering, log shipping)
Conduct database performance tuning and query optimisation
Oversee patching, upgrades, and migrations
Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure seamless operations
Ensure data security, compliance, and best practice standards are upheld

Key Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Senior SQL DBA in enterprise environments
Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server (2012–2019+)
Deep experience managing on-prem SQL Server infrastructure
Solid understanding of:
- Backup/recovery strategies
- High availability (Always On, failover clustering)
- Performance tuning and monitoring tools
Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent stakeholder communication

Desirable

Experience supporting hybrid environments (on-prem + Azure)
Exposure to database security, compliance, and auditing
Familiarity with DevOps practices or CI/CD pipelines
