As we see significant growth in our projects value and pipeline, new opportunities have been created for an Environmental Scientist/Consultant to join our team based in the Newcastle office.
WSP has one of the largest Contaminated Site teams in Australia. Our great team culture, technical leaders and supportive colleagues allow us to tackle interesting and complex projects for our clients whilst ensuring our team members work on rewarding and technically challenging projects.

Current Projects
- Property transaction due diligence assessments (Stage 1s)
- Environmental Site Assessments and Detailed Site Investigations (Stage 2s)
- Legacy industrial sites
- Transport infrastructure projects including rail, road and ports
- Downstream oil and gas sites (Service stations)
- Defence projects including delivery of PFAS monitoring and remediation programs
What You’ll Do
Conduct interesting environmental field works (e.g. drilling, hydrogeological testing, site validation, monitoring) with varied considerations for safety and intricate geology/hydrogeology.
- Collect environmental samples of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, ambient air and landfill gas, etc.
- Interrogate large datasets, develop conceptual site models and prepare detailed and concise field notes.
- Assist in the preparation of technical assessments reports and recommendations with the support of senior staff.
- Develop your contractor management, project planning and stakeholder communication skills.
- Contribute to a culture of teamwork, innovation, and passion, promoting trust and unity among team members.
- Uphold a strong safety culture and champion safety initiatives.
About You
You’re likely to have 3+ years of environmental consulting experience with a strong field‑work component, and you’re enthusiastic and reliable.
You Will Bring
- Some knowledge of contaminants and remediation principles.
- Ideally an understanding of site assessment, sampling and survey techniques.
- Willingness to undertake field‑work 50‑75% of the time.
- Hold a current Australian Driver’s License.
- Willingness to embrace new challenges.
- Problem‑solving skills and confidence to make decisions in the field.
- Strong time‑management skills.
