Murdoch University is seeking Expressions of Interest for casual academic employment in Community Development.

  • Roles include lecturer and / or tutor for postgraduate and undergraduate courses
  • Various hourly rates up to $264 per hour, plus 10.5% superannuation
  • Contribute significantly to the teaching of Murdoch's Community Development program

About Us

Murdoch's Community Development program is offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a flourishing and culturally diverse cohort in its highly-successful coursework Masters degree.

The discipline is closely aligned with other Development Studies and Public Policy programs in the Social Sciences and Arts, including Sustainable Development and International Aid.

We are seeking to appoint up to three full-time or part-time Lecturers who will make outstanding contributions to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students, to the professional practice of the program, and to the University's engagement with industry and community.

These roles are an excellent opportunity for early or mid-career academics and professionals in Community Development who seek to build a strong and interdisciplinary teaching portfolio in university education.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint up a number of casual staff to teach within undergraduate and postgraduate Community Development units.

These roles are an excellent opportunity for academics or practitioners in Community Development who seek to build a strong and interdisciplinary teaching portfolio in university education.

Successful applicants will work closely with others in the delivery of undergraduate and / or postgraduate units in Community Development. Our units are usually team-taught by a skilled group of academics and practitioners. Successful applicants are expected to :

  • prepare and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate classes in face-to-face, online and blended modes
  • have a thorough knowledge of the topic or skills they are teaching
  • mark and moderate assessment, provide prompt and meaningful feedback to students, and return final unit marks to the University prior to all due dates
  • be able to communicate their knowledge clearly
  • possess enthusiasm for learning and teaching
  • work effectively and professionally with others
  • be encouraging and approachable, treating all students fairly
  • demonstrate good organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • meet deadlines
  • be punctual, and come to class prepared
  • act in accordance with occupational health and safety practices, University policies and procedures, and legislative requirements at all times.
  • What You'll Bring to this Role

    1. Expertise in the theory and practice of Community Development or related areas, demonstrated by a completed PhD or Masters qualification, current enrolment in a postgraduate research or coursework degree, and / or equivalent industry experience.

    2. Ability to teach into such areas as :

  • professional practice,
  • the role of governments in the design and implementation of social policy,
  • creative ways to work with communities,
  • working cross-culturally to support Indigenous and other communities,
  • industry engagement in community development,
  • leading change, and
  • community action.
  • 3. Commitment to promoting student engagement and retention through teaching and learning.

    4. Excellent communicative ability in English.

    5. Excellent problem-solving, time management and interpersonal skills.

    6.Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment.

    7. Proficient administrative skills to support your academic duties.

    8. Demonstrated experience in teaching and / or research is desirable.
