An exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal health community engagement professional to be a part of the Western Public Health Unit (WPHU) that supports and coordinates improved community engagement across all health protection and population health efforts across the eight local government areas in the WPHU catchment.

  • As a key contributor to the team, you will have a chance to work in collaboration with key partners building relationships with community groups and agencies serving our catchment of eight local council areas. Your role within the multidisciplinary public health team includes, but is not limited to, the following activities;
  • Collaborate with the Willem Berrbang unit at Western Health, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO's), the Victorian Department of health, other Local Public Health Units and community partners
  • Actively addressing the engagement requirements of WPHU with a range of communities and groups with a specific focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, individuals and communities
  • Build and sustain solid relationships with a network of Aboriginal stakeholders and community groups, relevant to the development and implementation of WPHU initiatives and projects
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of priority areas of public health including community engagement, population health promotion and health protection, and areas and cohorts of greatest vulnerability
  • Provide advice on matters affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly topics of population health, communicable disease and access to health services
  • The successful applicant will have :

  • Identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Post-secondary studies in health, health promotion, social sciences, community development and / or related health field or equivalent work experience
  • Considerable experience (Minimum three years) working in community engagement or related areas in the health, aged care, disability or community services sector
