With the enactment of the Water Act 2007 (Cth), the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

For the first time in the Basin's history, one Basin-wide institution is responsible for planning the Basin's water resources, with all planning decisions made in the interest of the Basin as a whole.

  • Our most important work is to
  • prepare, implement and review an integrated plan for the sustainable use of the Basin's water resources
  • operate the River Murray system and efficiently deliver water to users on behalf of partner governments
  • measure, monitor and record the quality and quantity of the Basin's water resources
  • supporting, encourage and conduct research and investigations about the Basin's water resources and dependent ecosystems
  • advise the Australian Government Minister responsible for water on the accreditation of state water resource plans
  • provide water rights information to facilitate water trading across the Basin
  • engage and educate the Australian community about the Basin's water resources.
  • Who are we looking for
  • Assistant Director Assets
  • will :
  • Ensure the development of Asset Management System and framework improvement initiatives are robust, well researched and support the continuous improvement of planning with state constructing authorities.
  • Provide oversight, governance and assurance of the asset planning process including preparation of strategic investment plans.
  • Take a lead role in the proactive development of innovative technical solutions for the continuous improvement and optimisation of performance reporting.
  • Evaluate and present financial, performance and risk assessment data for a range of audiences.
  • Carryout health checks on projects at any time during the lifecycle and / or as requested by the Program Board, including capability assessments.
  • Evaluate and guide the prioritisation and scheduling of initiatives while providing advice and support to the team, the wider MDBA and its funding partners.
  • Develop and communicate decision making processes and demonstrate effective prioritisation of investment based on anticipated impacts to Levels of Service and Risk.
  • Coordinate cross-functional internal and external resources and supervise staff as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders including state constructing authorities.
  • Maintain a high level of written and oral communication including the preparation of agenda papers, presentations and briefing notes for MDBA Executive, Working Groups and high-level Committees as required.
  • Assist the team and portfolio with other duties as required.
  • Undertake urgent or high priority tasks, including acting in other River Management positions as required.
