About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity to join Metcash as a Senior Commercial Analyst reporting to the Merchandise and Marketing Finance Manager. The Senior Commercial Analyst will lead a team of 2 and be responsible for delivering the actuals, forecast and budget of the Merchandise function across Metcash’s Food business. The role will act as a 2IC to the Finance Manager with a primary focus on providing robust analysis on supplier income, partnering with merchandise commercial managers to address risks / opportunities and drive continuous improvement in reporting, systems and processes.

In this Role

  • Assist the finance manager with leading month end closure and reporting of merchandise results
  • Monthly analysis, reporting and commentary on merchandise and marketing performance by state, supplier and merchandise activity to drive commercial decision-making
  • Detailed analysis of margins and earn rates to pinpoint areas for improvement and build risk-mitigation plans
  • Partner with merchandise commercial managers to address exceptions, opportunities and risks
  • Completion of the half-year review and full-year audit.
  • Assist with the quarterly forecast and annual budget end to end process with stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders with all marketing (e.g. Retail Media Network, Cash back loyalty program) and merchandise (i.e. rebates income, promotions) queries.

    • You’re Likely a Match If

  • At least 5 years work experience in a business or commercial analyst role.
  • Possesses an accounting degree or equivalent qualification - ideally CPA or CA certified.
  • Advanced excel with strong financial modelling and system skills.
  • Understanding of commercial income drivers or previous merchandise experience highly advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and story-telling skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to improve
  • Previous experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365, TM1, Power BI, Power Enterprise, Power Query and PowerPivot would be an advantage
