Aboriginal Engagement Officer

Lead Aboriginal engagement strategies for major hospital projects and build strong community partnerships.

Employment Type : Temporary Full Time (up to 31 December 2027)

Position Classification : Health Manager Level 1

Remuneration : $44.28 - $58.91 per hour

Hours Per Week : 38

Location : Predominantly Westmead Hospital however services located across WSLHD sites.

    As the Aboriginal Engagement Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in connecting Aboriginal communities with WSLHD’s major capital works projects. Your work will ensure cultural perspectives are embedded in planning and delivery, fostering trust and collaboration.

  • Develop and implement Aboriginal Engagement Strategies for key projects
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders
  • Collect and analyse feedback to improve engagement outcomes
  • Prepare reports and communicate progress to stakeholders
  • Support project delivery within agreed timelines and budgets

    Essential Criteria

    Evidence of Diversity claim if applicable (state which category) : Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by section 14(d) of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977.

    Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal community engagement principles, cultural safety, and the importance of Aboriginal self‑determination in health and infrastructure settings.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in health‑related field and / or demonstrated work and / or lived experience.
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external key stakeholders, project groups and senior level management.
  • Demonstrated project management, research and / or evaluation skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs and Internet Explorer.
  • Valid NSW Drivers Licence and be willing to use it for work purposes.
