About the role
As Agronomist –mount Farms, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving orchard performance, translating data and monitoring into clear, practical actions that lift yield, quality, and efficiency.
Working closely with the Horticulture Manager, Orchard Managers, and Technical Officers, you’ll lead the development and execution of best-practice agronomic programs, mentor technical team members, and provide technical guidance that influences decision-making across the business.
This is a field-focused leadership role for someone who loves combining science with hands-on delivery — helping shape the future of Sandmount Farms’ horticultural operations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement soil health, plant nutrition, and integrated pest and disease management programs.Support irrigation scheduling by providing agronomic insights and data-driven recommendations.Conduct regular orchard monitoring, sampling, and data analysis to identify trends and opportunities.Lead, mentor, and develop the Technical Team, building capability and confidence in field decision-making.Collaborate with Orchard Managers to translate technical findings into operational improvements.Design and manage field trials for new technologies, inputs, or practices.Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental, and quality standards.Foster strong working relationships with suppliers, consultants, and industry partners.About You
You’re an experienced agronomist ready to take the next step — bringing technical depth, leadership, and curiosity to one of Australia’s most progressive horticultural businesses.
You’re commercially minded, with deep horticultural expertise and a genuine passion for lifting performance through practical, evidence-based decisions. You lead by example, communicate with clarity, and enjoy coaching others to grow their capability.
You'll bring
Tertiary qualification in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, or Horticulture.5+ years’ experience in applied agronomy or horticultural production (orchard-based).
Proven capability in soil health, plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and performance monitoring.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn data into action.Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Current Driver’s Licence.Highly regarded
Experience with precision agriculture tools and digital agronomy systems.Exposure to irrigation management and crop forecasting.Familiarity with continuous improvement programs or technical R&D.The Benefits
