Independent Person - Shepparton, Kyabram, Tatura or surrounding suburbs
Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) – Shepparton VIC
The Youth Referral and Independent Person Program (YRIPP) is looking for volunteers to act as Independent Persons (IPs).
When a young person is in police custody and a parent or guardian cannot attend, YRIPP volunteers step in. As an IP, you'll ensure the young person understands their rights, provide calm support during police interviews, and help level the playing field at a critical moment.
This role is not about giving legal advice; it's about being a steady, impartial presence so young people are treated fairly and with dignity. You'll also have the chance to link young people to support services that can help divert them from further offending.
