Role Overview
As part of our Naval Combat Systems group, the Software Engineer focuses on specification, design, development, documentation, testing, and maintenance of software components within Saab.
Responsibilities
- Participate in development and maintenance of software components and associated simulators.
- Develop an understanding of the operational use of the associated system under development.
- Participate in specification of software components.
- Design, implement and test software components to meet specified requirements.
- Produce all artefacts required for deliverables and internal reviews.
- Participate in reviews of software and documentation as required.
- Provide technical guidance to junior software engineers.
- Identify and prioritise tasks in consultation with the Team Leader.
- Plan, prioritise and deliver assigned tasks within the agreed scope and schedule.
Qualifications
Knowledge of contemporary software development standards, principles and best practices.Experience in writing software requirements, designing, developing and testing software components within software‑intensive systems.Experience in defect resolution of legacy software components within software‑intensive systems.Working within a team environment.At least one of the following languages, Java and / or Ada.Well‑developed communication skills (both written and oral).Well‑developed ability to work with others in a team environment.Well‑developed problem‑solving skills and the ability to develop creative and innovative solutions.Broad understanding of technology and technology trends.Genuine interest in large commercial and defence software‑intensive systems.Experience in developing in both procedural and object‑oriented paradigms.Familiarity with any of the following languages : C#, C++, Bash, Python or Go.Experience with tools / technologies such as Docker, Jenkins, DDS, Git, ClearCase and automated test frameworks.Knowledge of Linux and developing human‑machine interfaces.Experience with the products, development environment and tools used to develop and support software.Work Arrangements
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and 9‑day fortnight are considered for this role.
Security Requirements
As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance, preferably to NV1 level, or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under export control regimes, including ITAR.
