Rebuilding Shattered Lives
The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture, also known as Foundation House, delivers specialist trauma‑focused services to refugees, their families and communities. The Mental Health and Wellbeing (MHW) Area provides evidence‑based, trauma‑informed, culturally safe interventions.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Team Leader leads a team of Counsellor Advocates and Senior Practitioners, delivering counselling and advocacy to survivors of torture from refugee backgrounds. The role includes operational and practice supervision in line with the Foundation House Trauma Recovery Framework.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the management of Counsellor Advocates to deliver high‑quality services to refugees and asylum seekers.Provide practice and operational supervision, guiding clear assessments, case formulations and interventions.Apply a family‑centred approach across all services to adults, children, youth and families.Oversee risk identification, response and review of client and service delivery risks.Monitor service delivery against organisational and funding targets, including waitlists.Undertake comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments for complex cases.Build relationships with the Practice Excellence team to identify training needs and improvement opportunities.Qualifications and Experience
Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling or related discipline; postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.Demonstrated leadership and supervision of a multidisciplinary team.Advanced understanding of complex trauma and evidence‑based trauma‑focused interventions.Strong skills in psychosocial assessment, formulation, planning, care coordination and risk assessment.Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills across multiple service systems in Victoria.Expertise in culturally responsive and safe mental health and well‑being support.Benefits and Rewards
