The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is a historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting-edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
The State Managers are responsible for managing and coordinating the ASA activities in SA & WA, focused on strategic engagement with key state and local stakeholders to support the NPS program. This role will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including leadership across the ASA, SA & WA State Governments, local councils, and industry.
This role provides coordination and governance functions across the ASA to drive successful delivery through managing resources, timelines, and stakeholder expectations, while ensuring alignment with ASA, Defence, and AUKUS Pillar I objectives and compliance with domestic and international obligations.

This division has responsibility for working with whole-of-government stakeholders to support the development of world-first, nuclear non-proliferation arrangements for Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine program. As part of this, our team is responsible for developing policy advice on safeguards and non-proliferation issues and supports the implementation of a safeguards approach.
Our work is fast-paced and covers a broad range of subject matters. The work combines strategic, policy, legal, and technical issues. A background in international policy, international relations, law, engineering, technical or nuclear issues, and / or project delivery experience would be beneficial. Conceptual thinking to solve strategic and technical problems is required. International travel may also be required.
