Community Engagement Manager – Renewable Energy

Role Overview
The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for shaping strong, genuine, and transparent relationships with communities, landholders, Traditional Owners, local organisations, and stakeholders throughout all phases of renewable energy and infrastructure projects. The position ensures engagement is culturally aware, aligned with recognised practice standards, and supportive of responsible, community‑centred project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive engagement frameworks for communities, First Nations groups, and other stakeholders across all stages of project development—from initial concept work to construction and ongoing operations.
- Incorporate recognised engagement approaches such as IAP2 principles, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, FPIC-related processes, and organisational reconciliation or cultural commitments.
Delivery of Engagement Activities
Lead and coordinate engagement initiatives including community information sessions, small‑group meetings, neighbour catch‑ups, site tours, and public events.Foster open, two‑way communication and ensure interactions are respectful, accurate, and transparent.Early‑Stage Engagement & Stakeholder Identification
Support early project outreach by identifying and establishing contact with relevant local stakeholders including neighbours, landowners, councils, Traditional Owners, and community organisations.Provide the project team with insights into local sensitivities, risks, opportunities, and community expectations.Communications & Project Materials
Create polished, accessible content such as project updates, briefing documents, FAQs, newsletters, and digital communications.Ensure all messaging is culturally appropriate, clear, and consistent with the organisation’s engagement principles.Design and administer benefit-sharing initiatives that respond to community priorities and First Nations aspirations.Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to implement social and economic programs that deliver meaningful value for local and Indigenous communities.Relationship Management
Establish and maintain long‑term, trusted relationships with Traditional Owner groups, community members, regional organisations, and government stakeholders.Represent the organisation with cultural awareness, professionalism, and a commitment to building and maintaining social licence.Advisory Support & Risk Management
Provide tailored advice to internal teams on engagement risks, cultural considerations, and mitigation strategies.Identify emerging issues early and recommend appropriate actions to support smooth project development.Work closely with teams across Development, Operations, Communications, ESG, and Legal to align engagement with broader project needs.Skills & Experience
Demonstrated experience in community engagement, stakeholder relations, or social performance—ideally within renewable energy, infrastructure, regional development, or major projects.Strong understanding of engagement best practice (e.g., IAP2) and experience working respectfully and effectively with First Nations peoples.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into accessible language.Experience delivering public‑facing engagement activities and preparing professional engagement materials.Ability to identify issues early, assess risks, and provide strategic engagement guidance.Strong organisational capabilities and confidence managing multiple engagement activities across different locations.Experience co‑designing or implementing community or First Nations benefit‑sharing programs.Knowledge of planning processes, approvals pathways, or renewable energy project development.Experience working within FPIC‑aligned processes or organisational reconciliation initiatives.Cultural competency training or equivalent experience in culturally informed engagement.#J-18808-Ljbffr
