Job description

The Senior Policy Officer plays a key role in delivering on Government's commitments to First Peoples self-determination and reform. By providing policy advice across DEECA and to other Departments and agencies, leading and contributing to reform projects and providing governance support, this role contributes to embedding self-determination across government's policy, strategy, legislative and regulatory work, as well as program design and delivery.

The position requires strong policy and analytical skills; clear and effective communication, including in writing for government; and an ability to influence and work collaboratively with stakeholders. A high level of cultural capability and awareness is required including an understanding of Victoria's Aboriginal Self-Determination policy, legislation, and reform agenda.

Specialist / Technical Expertise / Qualifications

  • Cultural capability : Demonstrated knowledge of policies and legislation relevant to First Peoples rights and interests in Victoria ( Treaty, Self-Determination); demonstrated awareness of self-determination and cultural sensitivity. Experience engaging with First Peoples and Victorian Traditional Owners is an advantage.
  • Cabinet process : Knowledge of the Cabinet process and briefing product requirements is an advantage.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
