Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Worker

St Michael's Primary School, Nelson Bay located in the Port Stephens Region, a short 45‑minute drive from Newcastle CBD, is seeking a Permanent Part‑Time (10.5 hours per week) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Worker to join the team in January 2026. The school serves 275 students K‑6 and values inclusive, innovative learning and the development of each student's unique talents.

Job Description

The purpose of this role is to support students, teachers and the school community in the areas of culture, spirituality, student wellbeing and engagement. You will promote the Diocese of Maitland‑Newcastle’s Reconciliation Action Plan – Reflect, liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout the school.

Experience / Criteria

Desired Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience and expertise working in educational settings with a focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
• Demonstrated experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
• Established and ongoing links with the local and / or wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
• Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member in an educational setting.
• Qualifications and / or experience relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and / or cultural settings, including knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contemporary educational issues.

Salary is in accordance with the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2020.
