About Us

Western Private Hospital (WPH) is a boutique private hospital servicing the West of Melbourne with the provision of acute services, which has 62 inpatient beds. WPH’s facilities include four Operating Theatres, CSSD, Day Stay Unit, Day Oncology Unit, Overnight Ward for Surgical, Cardiac / CCU & HDU patients, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, Specialist Consulting Suites, Nuclear Medicine / PET Centre, and is supported by pathology, pharmacy, radiology, and radiation therapy services.

About the Role / s

COOK

We are currently seeking a passionate, experienced, and capable Cook to join our Food Services Team with availability to work a minimum of 3 days a week between the hours of 6.30am to 5.00pm .

This position reports to the Chef Manager and plays a crucial role in the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals to our patients. The successful candidate will assist in all aspects of food preparation including meeting varied and critically important dietary requirements and preferences; plating and service; ensuring the highest standards of quality and hygiene adhering to safe food handling practices and HACCP guidelines; working collaboratively with the Chef Manager and food services team to ensure a smooth food preparation and service operation; and supporting the team and assisting the Chef Manager during absences.

Selection Criteria

  • Previous experience working in a bulk catering role within a healthcare / aged care environment
  • Competency in food preparation, plating, and serving, with a focus on delivering high-quality meals
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to demonstrate empathy with patients
  • Flexibility to support the team, ability to follow schedules and backfill leave absences with extra shifts
  • Up to date with and aware of all food safety handling requirements and storage regulations
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Food Safety Supervisors Certificate (desirable)

FOOD SERVICES ASSISTANTS

We have multiple casual opportunities for Food Services Assistants to join our Food Services Team who are responsible for the servicing of meals to patients. You will be responsible for assisting the chef / cook with food preparation, preparing & presenting food professionally, serving meals to patients, basic menu monitoring, food transportation to and from wards, replenishing refrigerator and pantry food supplies, ensuring cleanliness of food preparation area, and disposing of unused food appropriately. Availability and flexibility to work a variety of AM & PM shifts and must be able to work at least 2 x 2.30pm-7.30pm shifts a week .

Selection Criteria

  • Food Safety Certificate HLTFSE001 or Food Handling Certificate (or equivalent) is a must!
  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen; hospital setting is desirable but not essential
  • Team player with excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Understanding of food safety handling, storage regulations, and OHS practices
  • Ability to follow work procedures and be willing to embrace changes and prioritise workloads
  • Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) or equivalent would be desirable
