Mitchelton State High School - An opportunity exists for the right candidate to lead our vibrant and creative faculty as Head of Department - Junior Secondary / The Arts within our dynamic school. This is a temporary full-time position commencing 22 January 2026 until 26 June 2026, unless otherwise determined. The successful candidate will lead The Arts and Junior Secondary learning areas. About Us

Mitchelton State High School is located Northwest of Brisbane. We cater to a diverse community of learners across Years 7 - 12. We have a current enrolment of approximately 560 students, a Trade Training Centre on site, International Student Program and High School Preparation Program.

Students at Mitchelton State High School learn in a community that values respect, engagement, achievement and lifelong learning. We encourage all students to perform at their best, maintain a positive attitude and aim for individual excellence in all that they do.

Our dedicated teaching staff maintain a strong sense of commitment to student performance and achievement. Academic staff and the Leadership Team work closely with Student Support Services and community organisations to deliver high quality programs to maximise student engagement in study.

About The Role

Responsibilities include, but not limited to :

  • Promote Equity and Excellence : Embed socially just approaches and set high expectations for both students and staff.
  • Build Strong Partnerships : Collaborate with students, parents, community groups, and government agencies to support shared educational goals.
  • Lead Strategically and Professionally : Be future-focused, engaging in continuous professional learning and strategic school improvement.
  • Manage Responsibly and Effectively : Apply relevant legislation and policies while overseeing human, financial, facility, and curriculum resources to achieve departmental goals.
