The City of Mandurah is looking to employ a new apprentice tocommence a career in turf management. The apprentice willlearn how to manage and care for grass surfaces. Thesuccessful candidate will work full time while completing theirCertificate III in Sports Turf Management.

You’ll learn from experts in the field on how to preparesports fields turf for matches, mowing and maintaining optimalconditions of lawn, setting out and sports field requirements,installing and maintaining irrigation systems, controlling weeds,plant pests, disorders and diseases, use of chemicals and more.

As a Sports Turf Apprentice you should be physically fit to meetthe labour demands of the role, but to succeed you should also havean eye for detail.

What does the ideal candidate bring to City ofMandurah?

  • School leavers : OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8
  • Non-school leavers : C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or a completion of a Certificate II in a related discipline
  • Genuine interest in the preparation of sports fields and the turf trade
  • Current unrestricted C class national driver’s licence
  • Self-motivated and keen to learn
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Be a confident communicator
  • Ability to follow instructions and take direction from Team Leader / Supervisor
  • A strong team player
  • Basic knowledge of turf, horticulture and turf tools
  • Reliable and hardworking
  • Computer skills with the ability to operate software programs, tablets and mobile devices
  • Ability to organise own work and apply time management principles

    This fulltime position attracts a starting salary of $30,134gross per annum for a junior or $50,224 gross per annum for anadult. The apprenticeship is 4 years in duration and islocated at the Council’s Operations Centre on ParkRoad. Successful applicants will need to obtain their whitecard prior to commencing.
