Associate Lecturer / Lecturer Biomedical Sciences, Rural - Port Macquarie
UNSW Rural (Port Macquarie campus) brings world-class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6-year medical course at our rural clinical campuses (RCC) across several locations. Face-to-face teaching is critical to rural program delivery as students build strong relationships with and benefit from more personal interaction with clinicians and other academics and become a part of the local medical community. UNSW's program has strongly supported the aims of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program for over 25 years, delivering excellence in rural medical education and student experience.

Responsibilities / Key Tasks
Role includes teaching and demonstration within the laboratory environment and contributing to the undergraduate medical course in the delivery of biomedical sciences and laboratory management at the RCC.
Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the laboratory environment through provision of quality technical support (set-up and pack-down, resolution of technical issues, equipment maintenance, safety records, inventories).
Demonstrate interest in rural health education to support local hospital and community health outcomes.
Report to the Director of Medical Education at the identified campus with no direct reports.
Support and mentor students ensuring appropriate laboratory processes and safety procedures are maintained.
Maintain laboratory equipment, coordinate servicing, repairs and replacement, and use UNSW systems for resourcing and ordering where appropriate.

Verification of qualifications
Qualifications / Skills
An BMed, MBBS or undergraduate degree in a relevant medical sciences field, or a PhD with relevant work experience and professional expertise.
Active engagement with discipline knowledge, technical expertise, and teaching practice development.
Experience in biomedical sciences teaching with a focus on rurally focused education.
Ability to teach basic biomedical components (anatomy, physiology, genetics, immunology, biochemistry, histology, pharmacology, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, research methodology and statistics).
Laboratory management experience, regulatory compliance, safety management, and equipment maintenance.
Set up equipment, prepare chemical solutions, develop samples and cultures, and mentor students while ensuring safety procedures.
Maintain laboratory equipment and coordinate servicing and resourcing using UNSW systems.
Qualifications for Seniority (if applicable)
For Lecturer (Level B) : demonstrated experience in large and small group teaching and supervision with a focus on biomedical sciences; knowledge of IT for education, effective communication, collaboration, and emerging research interest with peer-reviewed publications.

Remuneration : Academic Level A or Level B $91,381 - $127,947 per annum, pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
