Primary Purpose :

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership to the drafting services team and drive drafting accuracy and efficiency in conjunction with the State Operations Manager.

Key Result Area

Drafting Team Leadership

  • With the State Operations Manager, facilitate the coordination of the Drafting team’s targets and workflow in line with business unit KPIs.
  • Mentor, train and develop Drafters – providing support where required.
  • Manage drafting workflow, forecasts and output.
  • Manage the allocation of work between the internal and external drafting teams in line with capability and skill set, as well as business priorities.

Drafting

  • Oversight of the production of drawings including site plans, floor plans, elevations, internal elevations, details and sections, shadow and overlooking diagrams.
  • Provide drawings and documentation for tenders, masters, contracts, council lodgements and site purposes.
  • Oversight of plan variations, Council RFIs, and application of selections.
  • Engineering

  • Refer all plans to engineering partners for preliminary and full engineering.
  • Liaise closely with engineers on trouble shooting or specific outcomes for clients, in close consultation with the Operations and Building Managers.
  • Energy

  • Refer plans for energy rating requirement assessments.
  • Liaise closely with energy raters on trouble shooting or specific outcomes for clients, in close consultation with the Sales and Operations Managers.
  • Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the assessment of processes and efficiency to drive accuracy and productivity across the team, identifying any areas for improvement.
  • Monitor workflow and escalate any barriers to progress.
  • Contribute to the improvement of plan notes, detail and disclaimers.
  • Quality Control

  • Ensure procedures and checklists are established and used for all functions and maintain full compliance with company standards.
  • Manage the QA of all drafting work, sourcing feedback from sales and construction teams, and identifying any patterns of issues affecting builds.
  • Own the clarification process prior to jobs going to site and ensure drafting are accurate and responsive.
  • Drive the ongoing updates and accuracy of the SA masters, working closely with the State Operations Manager, the Sales Manager, the SA Construction team and the National Masters team.
  • Extra / Overs

  • Review drafting related Extras to Site (ETSs) each month, identifying areas of concern and using findings to adapt training for individuals.
  • Contribute to the required reduction of ETSs in line with set KPIs.
  • Internal and External relationships

  • Ensure working relationships between teams are open, respectful and constructive.
  • Monitor and audit the strength of external relationships to identify any areas for improvement in communication or responsiveness.
  • Maintain productive relationships with colleagues intra and interstate to drive national consistency.
  • Compliance

  • Adherence to and support for the Burbank Variation Policy and documented building details.
  • All plans to be completed accurately and to reflect client contractual documents, regulatory requirements, Design Guidelines, NCC and Burbank standards.
  • Typical Qualifications and / or Experience

  • Diploma of Drafting, Design or related qualification
  • At least 5 years experience in a volume residential building drafting role.
  • People management experience preferred but not essential.
  • Proficiency in ArchiCAD
  • Experience with Projects or Medium Density
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Proactive and innovative approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), ResCode and Australian Standards in relation to residential construction.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook computer skills
  • Able to adjust to varying workloads and work within timelines given.
  • Strong time management skills.
