About the Role

Lahana Restaurant & Bar, located in Hurstville, is seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our team.

We are a busy restaurant and function venue specialising in authentic Nepalese and Newari cuisine. We also provide catering for large functions and events at the restaurant and function centres.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience working in a busy commercial kitchen and demonstrated experience preparing Nepalese and Newari cuisine. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Hurstville NSW 2220.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook high-quality dishes, with a focus on authentic Nepalese and Newari cuisine.
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented consistently to restaurant standards.
  • Assist with developing new menu items and updating existing dishes to accommodate function and dietary requirements.
  • Monitor food quality throughout preparation and service.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate storage and handling of food and ingredients.
  • Monitor stock levels, manage inventory and order supplies as required.
  • Check deliveries, minimise food wastage and assist with controlling food costs.
  • Support and guide kitchen staff to maintain efficient kitchen operations.
  • Assist with training kitchen staff and coordinating kitchen duties as required.
  • Maintain a clean, hygienic and organised kitchen environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef in a busy restaurant or similar commercial kitchen environment.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing Nepalese and Newari cuisine.
  • Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation and kitchen operations.
  • Good communication, organisational and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
