Senior Bioinformatician - Bioinformatics Core Facility, Cancer Research Division
• Fixed-Term, Full time, 2 year position
• 1SR4-1SR7, depending on experience
This position requires a senior bioinformatician to support single-cell and spatial protein and transcriptomics bioinformatics for several clinical research projects that are focused on understanding the tumour immune microenvironment.
This role will be required to work closely with lab researchers and clinicians to address research questions in the fields of melanoma, merkel cell carcinoma and prostate cancer research. This position presents an opportunity to analyse data derived from several unique, novel immunotherapy studies and clinical cohorts. This position will undertake bioinformatics research to optimise analysis methodologies and leverage existing knowledge and resources from other bioinformatics core team members to streamline development and data processing.
Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Working with lab and clinician researchers to support the design and implementation of new analysis and workflow solutions on a range of genomics and transcriptomics data, including single-cell RNA and spatial data
• Aid experimental design, analyse and interpret QC data of sequencing experiments • Optimise workflows and pipelines for routine data processing
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or equivalent. The candidate will have three or more years of experience in the field of human cancer bioinformatics.

Essential RequirementsQualification, experience and skills:
• PhD in an appropriate area of study (such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Computer Science, or Software Engineering)
• Minimum of three-year relevant experience with exposure to the analysis of next-generation sequencing data for human disease research
• Strong experience in high-throughput transcriptomics/ RNA-sequencing and single-cell sequencing technologies
• Experience in analysis of immune cell characterisation from spatial and/or single cell data is preferable
• Strong experience in spatial profiling technologies
• Strong academic track record demonstrated by publications and grant applications
• Experience in whole-genome and whole-exome sequencing related bioinformatics techniques
• Excellent programming and data analysis skills in R and Python
• Experience working in a Unix environment and shell scripting
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work constructively within a cross-disciplinary team environment
• Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data analysis, new methods and software implementations are of high quality and accessible to other researchers
• Ability to manage time effectively
• Pipeline development and frameworks such as Nextflow
• Experience working with high-performance computing (HPC) systems, or in a cloud computing environment
