At Seeing Eye Dogs Australia, dogs are more than just a job – they are our life.
As a division of Vision Australia, Seeing Eye Dogs strives to develop and maintain innovative, high-quality dog guide services to enhance the mobility and independence of people who are blind or have low vision.
We follow the journey of a Seeing Eye Dog from their breeding and initial development as puppies, through their advanced training to ensure they can safely guide their future partners, to matching them with a client and finally ending with their happy retirement after eight years of dedicated service.
This journey is not only meaningful and rewarding, but also fun!
About the Opportunity
As our SED Trainer, you will assess and train Seeing Eye Dogs consistent with the International Guide Dog Federation Standards and the standards, policies, procedures, and values set by Vision Australia and contribute to the successful operations of Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs (VA SED). In this role you will also:
Assess dogs suitability and train selected dogs to matching standards
Support Seeing Eye Dogs Mobility Instructors to identify the best suitable match for each dog and client
Train, coach, and support Trainee SED Trainers (as required)
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Seeing Eye Dogs program

About You
Qualified as a Guide Dog Trainer with an organisation accredited by the International Guide Dog Federation.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including walking approx.12 kilometres a day in all weather, and handling young, active dogs.
Understand and apply current animal welfare and dog training principles.
