Senior SQL Server DBA (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)

We’re looking for a Senior SQL Server DBA who’s deeply technical, customer-focused, and ready to lead complex on-premises SQL Server migrations from legacy (2005–2012) to SQL Server 2022 environments.
In this fixed-term contract role, you’ll take ownership of the full migration lifecycle – from analysis and planning through to implementation, tuning, and post-migration support. You’ll work directly with clients, guiding them through best practices while solving tough performance and availability challenges.
A bit about you:
- You’re a seasoned SQL Server DBA with hands-on migration experience across versions 2005 to 2022
- You thrive in customer-facing roles and communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders
- You have strong T-SQL and PowerShell scripting skills (especially with dbatools)
- You’re proactive, highly organised, and comfortable leading projects independently
- You bring deep knowledge of SQL Server HA/DR, performance tuning, and integration services
Some of the key things you’ll do:
- Lead the migration of SQL Server databases from 2005–2012 to SQL Server 2022
- Analyse legacy environments and design robust migration strategies
- Optimise performance and troubleshoot issues during and after migration
- Implement and manage high availability/disaster recovery solutions where needed
- Collaborate closely with clients, project teams, and stakeholders to ensure smooth execution
- Provide technical guidance and contribute to uplift planning and delivery
- Maintain clear communication with Program and Project Managers on progress and risks
