ABOUT THE ROLE:

Outback Spirit Tours is seeking an experienced Lodge Mechanic to join our team at Arnhem Land Barramundi Lodge, a remote fishing lodge located in the spectacular wilderness of Arnhem Land.

This is a unique live-in opportunity where you’ll play an important role in keeping the lodge’s vehicles, vessels, machinery and essential infrastructure operating safely and reliably. Accommodation and meals are provided at no cost, giving you the opportunity to live and work in one of Australia’s most remarkable remote environments.

Working closely with lodge management and the wider team, you’ll be responsible for preventative maintenance, servicing, fault finding and repairs across a varied fleet and range of equipment. Your work will be critical to the smooth running of lodge operations and ensuring our guests can enjoy a safe and seamless experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with lodge management to prioritise and coordinate repairs and maintenance, ensuring vehicles, vessels and equipment are operational when required.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, fault finding and breakdown repairs across lodge vehicles, vessels, machinery and property maintenance equipment.
  • Maintain and service prime power generators and other essential lodge infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and auto-electrical faults.
  • Respond efficiently to unexpected breakdowns and operational maintenance requirements in a remote environment.
  • Use practical and cost-effective maintenance solutions while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reporting.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements and company procedures.
  • Support the broader lodge team as required to contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the property.

ABOUT YOU:

You’re a capable and resourceful mechanic who is comfortable working independently and finding practical solutions in a remote environment. You’ll bring strong mechanical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to prioritise competing maintenance requirements while maintaining a high standard of safety and workmanship.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A relevant mechanical trade qualification with experience across petrol and diesel engines.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing marine vessels and outboard motors (highly regarded).
  • Experience with generators and other remote-site equipment (highly regarded).
  • Strong mechanical and auto-electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • A current Australian Driver’s Licence, with MR or HR licence preferred.
  • A Forklift Licence.
  • Previous experience working in remote locations or similarly self-sufficient environments.
  • Strong communication and literacy skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • A flexible, hands-on approach and willingness to assist across broader lodge operations when required.

At Outback Spirit Tours, we prioritise a safe and productive work environment. As part of this commitment, we conduct drug and alcohol testing for all employees. Candidates should be aware that some prescription medications may cause a non-negative test result, and by applying for this position, you confirm your understanding and acceptance of this policy. Furthermore, please note that a National Criminal History Check is a required step in the recruitment process.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

  • A fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic and expanding tourism business
  • Generous discounts on Journey Beyond travel and experiences
  • Free accommodation and meals
  • Employee Referral Program
  • Discounts on private health insurance
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program
  • Exclusive discounts on Journey Beyond merchandise
