Purpose of the Role
BGIS is seeking an experienced and thoughtful Operations Manager to lead operational excellence across a high-profile government portfolio.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will partner closely with client teams and Facility Managers to oversee asset maintenance strategies, compliance, lifecycle planning, and operational delivery.
You'll help drive a culture of safety, wellbeing, continuous improvement, and calm, solutions-focused leadership.
This role suits someone who can navigate complex environments with resilience, empathy, and clear communication.
Key Responsibilities
Lead strategic asset maintenance management and ensure compliance across a diverse property portfolio.
Analyse asset data to support lifecycle planning, backlog maintenance, redundancy planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Guide and support Facility Managers and the operations team with technical advice, problem-solving, and coaching.
Manage budget planning, monitor expenditure, and support accurate forecasting and reporting.
Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure alignment with BGIS systems, standards, and service expectations.
Promote a safe and positive workplace culture, ensuring WHSEQ and regulatory requirements are met.
Build trusting relationships with client representatives, maintaining transparency and collaborative communication.
Prepare operational reports, meeting materials, and insights to support decision-making.
Foster a supportive, people-centred environment, providing leadership, mentoring, and clear expectations to direct reports.
Education, Experience & Skills
Essential
Proven experience in Facilities Management, Operations Management, Asset Management, or a similar integrated services environment.
Strong understanding of QA, WHS, environmental systems, and statutory compliance.
Confident financial acumen, including budgets, forecasts, KPI reporting, and business planning.
Ability to lead people with compassion, accountability, and clarity.
Experience navigating complex stakeholder environments with professionalism.
Strong problem-solving ability and a calm, level-headed approach — able to innovate without taking challenges personally.
Proficiency with CMMS and standard desktop applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desirable
Tertiary qualifications in Property, Business, Facilities Management or related discipline.
Training in WHS, QA, risk, or environmental systems.
Experience within government, justice, or regulated operational environments (highly regarded).
Additional training in asset management, project management, or property services.
Workplace Flexibility
This role is based primarily at the client's Parramatta office.
Following initial probation period and depending on operational needs, hybrid flexibility (1 day WFH per week) is available.
