Wheels of Wellness commenced life as a social enterprise back in 2014 – they are now a registered charity and not – for –profit organisation providing crucial health and social support to the most disadvantaged, vulnerable members of the Cairns community. The Wheels of Wellness service is provided by a very special group of medical professionals and volunteers who deliver free, focused medical and social support.

Relying on partnerships, grants and donations, their delivery model is both mobile and a fixed service, which uses GP, Health Worker and Social worker clinics to engage, support and deliver health care to members of community – people disadvantaged by domestic abuse, homelessness, poverty and those at risk of homelessness.

A little about the role:
We are seeking an experienced and socially conscious GP to join a flexible, trauma-informed healthcare service supporting vulnerable communities across Cairns. This role offers a mix of clinic-based and mobile outreach work via a fully equipped medical van, delivering holistic, person-centred care at the Wheels of Wellness Hub, Anglicare, and other key locations.

Operating within a fully bulk-billed model with 30-minute appointments, the focus is on quality care for clients with complex needs. As part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team—including social workers, health workers, and SMOs—you’ll help build partnerships with allied health professionals and community stakeholders to improve health outcomes for underserved populations.
Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver holistic primary healthcare in clinical and outreach settings
• Provide trauma-informed, person-centred care with a focus on mental health, chronic disease, and complex social issues
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
• Build partnerships with community services and stakeholders
• Support mobile healthcare delivery via a fully equipped medical van

Skills & Experience Required:

• Experience in general practice, preferably in primary, mental health, or community settings
• Strong understanding of MBS billing
• Experience in Indigenous Health, chronic disease management, mental health, youth outreach, and DFSV
• Demonstrated innovation and problem-solving in complex care delivery
• Passion for health equity and social justice
