Primary Purpose :
The primary focus of this role is to perform conveyor belt splicing and maintenance, ensuring the efficient operation of conveyor systems across mineral processing, bulk materials handling, forestry, and recycling equipment. This includes mechanical splicing, cutting, bending, and repairing rubber belts used in crushing, screening, washing, and conveying equipment. The role also involves general mechanical fitting tasks, repairs, preventative maintenance, and condition assessments to support equipment performance and reliability.
Specific Duties :
Conveyor Belt Splicing & Maintenance (Primary Focus) :
- Perform mechanical splicing of conveyor belts, including cold and hot splicing techniques.
- Cut, splice, bend, and install rubber belts for crushing, screening, washing, and conveying equipment.
- Inspect, repair, and replace conveyor belts and related components to ensure minimal downtime.
- Align and track conveyor belts to prevent premature wear and improve operational efficiency.
- Maintain detailed records of splicing and belt maintenance work, including photographic documentation.
Mechanical and Equipment Maintenance :
Diagnose, fault-find, and repair mechanical and engine systems by reading and interpreting technical manuals and procedures.Conduct pre-delivery inspections, condition assessments, modifications, upgrades, overhauls, and preventative maintenance on general mineral processing and bulk materials handling equipment.Hydraulic and Electrical Systems :
Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems by reading schematics, interpreting technical data, and testing pressures and flows.Perform basic maintenance and repairs on 12V and 24V electrical control systems using schematics and testing tools.Welding & Fabrication :
Perform basic welding tasks with appropriate tools and materials for equipment repairs and modifications.Quality Assurance & Technical Reporting :
Ensure all repairs and modifications meet quality standards and OEM specifications.Prepare detailed technical reports on equipment conditions, outlining required remedial work.Maintain accurate technical records, including photographic evidence, settings, checks, and balances.Workshop & Equipment Maintenance :
Maintain workshop vehicles, tools, and lifting equipment, ensuring safety and operational standards are met.Operate lifting equipment safely, including overhead cranes, elevated work platforms, and forklifts.Training & Support :
Provide guidance and support to apprentices and trades assistants, sharing trade expertise.Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE) :
Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment, adhering to a "clean as you go" policy.Complete required safety documentation, including pre-starts, JSEAs, JHAs, and Take 5s.Proactively manage hazards and risks, supporting OH&S policies and practices.Report environmental impacts and follow sustainable work practices.Position Accountabilities / Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) :

Education / Qualifications / Experience :
Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering ( Mechanical Fitter ) or equivalent.3–5 years post-apprenticeship experience in conveyor belt splicing and the mineral processing equipment industry.Extensive knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems, with basic electrical troubleshooting capabilities.Proven experience in mechanical splicing of conveyor belts, including cold and hot splicing methods.Experience in positioning, aligning, and securing structural and rubber parts to crushing, screening, washing, and conveying equipment.Basic welding skills.Valid driver’s license (Forklift and Overhead Crane licenses preferred).Skills :
