About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our Contaminated Land team. Our team is experienced in planning and executing environmental site assessment and remediation projects which improve the health and wellbeing of the communities that we live in.

In this role, you’ll provide strategic and practical solutions to clients with a broad range of environmental management challenges under the guidance of an experienced Project Director. Your role will predominantly include interpretation of technical data, preparation of technical reports, and presenting information in a clear and logical manner, with additional opportunities in project management, planning and delivery. You will primarily work on a large fuel facility remediation program, involving complex and unique approaches to site assessment, management and remediation. You will also be involved in varied and interesting projects, ranging from industrial and Defence sites to greenfields and brownfields redevelopments, groundwater hydrogeology investigations, and multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.

Day to day tasks would involve:

• Technical leadership including analytical data interpretation, and technical reporting.

• Project management of contaminated land projects including planning and execution of fieldwork, co-ordination of internal resources, contractor management, budget management and client correspondence.

• Assist with the scope, design and costing of contaminated land and groundwater investigations.

• Provide mentoring and training to graduates and junior professionals throughout the delivery of your projects.

• Lead the preparation of technical reports, focused on presenting information in a clear and logical manner, supported by appropriate interpretation of technical data in accordance with relevant guidelines and legislation.

• Assist in undertaking fieldwork which may involve sampling of environmental media (e.g. soil, groundwater, surface water or soil vapour), undertaking hydrogeological investigations, or supervision of subcontractors conducting works such as drilling, excavation or remediation activities (This role is predominantly a Project management and technical role; however, some fieldwork and/or field mentoring will be required).

To be successful for this role you'll need:

• Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Chemistry or related field.

• 5-15 years’ experience within the field of contaminated land assessment and/or environmental assessment and remediation.

• Strong technical reporting, analytical interpretation, and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated experience in site supervision, managing site investigations and various sampling methods including soil and groundwater

• Demonstrated project management experience, including verbal communication skills, business acumen to manage projects commercially and to create meaningful relationships with clients

• Valid/current driver’s licence and the ability to travel to sites for field work
