Overview:
Salary: $250,000 - $300,000
Location: Sydney
Focus: Investment leadership | Wealth advisory build-out | Strategic Ownership
The Opportunity:
This is one of those roles that will genuinely excite the right person.
If you have built your career in wealth, private client advisory, multi-asset portfolio oversight or an investment leadership environment, but increasingly find yourself wanting more ownership, more influence and a much closer seat to the strategic decision-making… this is worth serious consideration.
This is not a traditional institutional investment role, and it is not a seat in a large, layered business where you are one voice among many. This is a real opportunity to help shape and lead the investment function inside a premium boutique advisory firm managing an ultra-high-net-worth client base and complex private wealth structures.
With an established relationships already in place, and the leadership team now preparing to launch their wealth offering, the timing is great. Working closely with the founders, you will help define the investment model, bring structure and rigour to portfolio oversight, and play a central role in launching and evolving a high-trust, high-quality wealth management offering.
Role Profile:
You will be the senior investment leader helping shape the firm’s wealth capability and ensuring clients receive thoughtful, disciplined and well-governed investment oversight. Your mandate will cover:
- Investment Strategy & Client Oversight: You will help translate client objectives, constraints and long-term priorities into clear investment direction, providing considered guidance across strategy, asset allocation and overall portfolio positioning.
- Whole-of-Portfolio Leadership: You will maintain oversight across client investment arrangements, looking across managers, mandates and structures to ensure the full picture remains aligned, efficient and fit for purpose.
- Manager Selection & Review: You will assess and oversee external investment managers, advisers and specialist providers, making recommendations around mandate fit, performance, risk, concentration and changes where required.
- Governance, Risk & AFSL Support: You will contribute to the governance framework underpinning the investment function, including policy, documentation, review processes and broader AFSL-related disciplines where relevant.
- Wealth Offering Development: This is a key part of the attraction. You will work with leadership to help shape how the wealth offering is delivered in practice, how it scales, and what a premium investment service model should look like in this environment.
- Leadership in a Boutique Setting: You will set the tone for rigour, judgement, client service and investment discipline, while being comfortable operating hands-on in a business that values quality over bureaucracy.
Successful Candidate Profile:
This role is likely to appeal to someone operating in a senior investment, private wealth or portfolio leadership capacity. You will be someone looking to step into a more entrepreneurial, high-ownership environment and someone who enjoys building, shaping and commercialising an offering rather than simply operating within a predefined model. You will bring:
- Strong experience in investment leadership, asset allocation oversight, portfolio strategy or multi-asset advisory
- Experience working with sophisticated clients, complex wealth structures or high-trust private capital environments
- Capability across whole-of-portfolio thinking, including external manager oversight, mandate review and strategic positioning
- Sound judgement in balancing investment rigour with client context, relationship management and commercial practicality
- Familiarity with governance, risk and regulated investment environments, ideally including AFSL-linked settings
- Relevant tertiary and/or professional investment qualifications
- Responsible Manager capability, or the credibility and background to satisfy those requirements, will be viewed favourably
What makes this different to your typical investment role:
- True Ownership: This is not a narrow “manage your lane” role. You will have genuine influence over investment philosophy, client strategy, governance and how the broader offering is built.
- Boutique Access, Premium Clients: You will work in a highly personalised environment with sophisticated clients, complex family structures and meaningful capital to steward.
- Build, Don’t Just Inherit: Rather than stepping into a mature machine with limited room to shape it, you will help establish the investment capability and create the framework for future growth.
- Proximity to Decision-Makers: You will work directly with the founders in a fast-moving environment where quality thinking and sound judgement carry real weight.
- Variety and Complexity: This is whole-of-portfolio oversight, manager review, strategic asset allocation, client engagement, governance and commercial input, not simply product distribution or maintenance-mode portfolio management.
- Serious Long-Term Upside: For someone who wants to help build a premium wealth platform in a high-trust environment, this is the kind of role that can become much bigger over time.
